We’re raising money for Saving Mothers at Strong Like a Mama because no woman should die giving life.
The Problem
We’re facing a global maternal mortality crisis, and the US is not immune. In fact, the US has the highest mortality rate in the developed world, and it’s steadily rising due to lack of health insurance and access to quality maternal care, overmedicalization and racial and socioeconomic disparities. The worst part is, mothers are dying at an exponential rate, and most of their deaths could be prevented with low-cost, basic sexual and reproductive health care.
How Saving Mothers Helps
Saving Mothers is a non-profit organization of doctors and allied professionals dedicated to eradicating preventable maternal deaths and birth-related complications in low-resource settings. They work with governments and local organizations to improve maternal healthcare through access to biomedical technologies and customized programming based on the specific needs of the communities they serve.
Their program, Ending Racial Disparity in Maternal Death in NYC: The mPOWHER project, is enhancing the focus on maternal health through a medical and evidence-based curriculum with a focus on health literacy and training programs to transform first-line healthcare workers into true maternal health champions.
